show up for yourself

“You can not do God’s part and God will not do your part.” – Kim McManus

When Kim McManus spoke those words at the She Inspires Conference, they went straight to my heart. I realized that I’ve been waiting for God to show up at my door with my dream gift-wrapped in beautiful package with a great big bow! I’ve been doing the wrong part. It’s not my part to worry about timing or resources. It’s my part to show up for myself and my God-given dream by getting ready.

Kim also said we need to invest in ourselves. Ugg… I’ve been so reluctant to spend the money or the time preparing myself and getting the tools necessary to move toward my dream. Well, no more. I’m getting prepared and doing the part that God has given me to do. God WILL do the rest.  “He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.”  – 1 Thessalonians 5:24

What about you? Are you doing your part to move toward your God-given dream?

to strip away

April 25, 2012 in quotes

I decided to start anew, to strip away what I had been taught. – Georgia O’Keefe

By stripping away and starting anew, Georgia O’Keeffe showed us we could look at flowers in a whole new way – large, up-close, and full of vibrant energy. Sometimes starting anew means challenging what you’ve been taught, the way you’ve always seen things, and looking again in a brand new way.

Are there ideas, beliefs, or habits that you need to strip away in order to start anew?

making old things new

April 24, 2012 in events, quotes

There is an opportunity for us to renew ourselves. There’s an opportunity for us to leave the past behind and present something different for the future.
-Jay Weatherill

My daughter, Amanda, and I spent an inspirational day at The Depot at Gibson Mill looking at the creative ways people are making old things new. Some of my favorite items were the old typewriter keys made into new earrings, old cups made into new night lights, and old handkerchiefs transformed into new  lavender sachets. Beautiful to think that these old objects can be renewed and re-purposed…We have that same opportunity to renew ourselves, leave the past behind, and present something different for the future.

Where do you need to be renewed to present something different for your future?

you is kind

So … I am trying to write my bio and I find it painful to write about myself in general, but in the third person is even worse. This clip from The Help where Abilene teaches Mae Mobley the most important things about her identity encourages me. The most important thing is not what we’ve done or accomplished. The most important thing is who we are and whose we are. When we feel like aren’t important to anyone else, we are always important to God.
